The first session covers the basics of what the parts of the machine are and running and maintaining the tractor. We'll also look at adjusting the wheels and the cultivation arms, starting the Cub and tricks for helping the process; how to use a crank. We will have a discussion of tooling for your Cub, things you can buy, and things you can make. Hands on work will be basic maintenance tasks: oil and filter changes, grease and lubrication, air cleaner cleaning, brake and clutch, adjustments, about batteries, cooling system maintenance, winter storage, common odds and ends, keeping a maintenance log
The first session is essentially the one-day Farmall Cub Overview Workshop.
Session 2: Fuel SystemThe second session includes a continued look at maintenance and an overview of the engine: air, fuel and ignition (spark) systems on the tractor. We'll see how a gasoline engine works and what the parts do and what generally happens when they don't do it. Hands on work will be additional maintenance tasks, and we will take apart, study and rebuild a carburetor.
Session 3: Ignition SystemThe third session will focus on the ignition system of the engine. We will check engine compression, check engine timing, clean spark plugs and check and set plug gaps. If necessary we might change the points and do additional ignition work. As well, we will talk about troubleshooting problems witht he tractor; symptoms of various problems with the machine, how to track the problem down and what to do about it. Q and A about problems you might be having/had.
* These activities require purchasing new parts and/or rebuild kits. To be discussed in first session.
